Our flock is selected to produce a truely dual-purpose animal
that
has the potential to excel in the production of both handspinning
quality
wool and market lambs that will prosper and grow efficently in a
grass-based
management system. Market lambs finish with only a minimal amount
of feeds to finish
To meet these goals, we have embarked on a crossbreeding
program to
select the best characteristics from each breed. Our flock is
based
on Border Leicester with the addition of Lincoln and Romney
genes. We are continually adjusting the flock to breing out the
characteristics we are developing. In 2003 a Coopworth ram was
used on some of the ewes in order to make adjustments to the wool
characteristics of the flock. |

Ewes are selected to give mutiple births and produce adequate milk to raise their lambs. The year 2000 lamb crop showed that this selection works with a lamb crop of more than 200%. No ewe produced less than twins and several sets of triplets were born and raised without supplementation. |
